.
So, I have decided to knit 12 sweaters in 12 months. January – December 2011.
.
Here is the cool part, you can do it too.
.
Well, even if you don’t want to do 12 in 12 like me, you can do 1 or 3 or 8 of them if you want.
.
Here is what I am offering. I am going to tell you what sweaters I am doing, in what months and you can join me for any or all of them! If you decide you want to knit them, you’ll get a deal. I’ll give you 20% off the yarn and needles and pattern needed to make the sweater and you can knit it with me.
.
Now, I won’t make you knit it in a month! You can take as much time as you want to make it. AND you can choose any yarn you would like, you don’t have to do exactly the same yarn as me either. Cool huh? So, do you think I’ll be able to finish a sweater a month?
.
But wait…there’s more…
.
#1 If you choose to knit one of these sweaters… and choose to try to do it in a month…like me…IF you get it knit in a month…I’ll give you a $25 gift certificate to the shop!
.
#2 For every sweater you choose to do with me, even if you don’t finish them, we’ll enter your name in a drawing for a $200 gift certificate to the shop! Yep, $200. That drawing will not take place until the end of December…so you have a lot of time to get your name in. So, choose to tackle all 12 and you get 12 chances to win!
.
#3 I am sure I’ll throw in a few other goodies as we make our way through the year! So keep checking the blog…maybe they’ll be more chances to win!
.
So, here is my line up. I hope you find at least one sweater of these sweaters you want to knit!
.
.
January’s sweater is from the Interweave Knits Winter 2010 magazine. Now, I like Interweave Knits magazine well enough, but never has there been a pattern in it that I needed to knit immediately. Until now. I LOVE this sweater and it has been hard to wait this long to start it. It is called Ginevra’s Pullover. The picture doesn’t really do it justice. It is knit in Malabrigo Twist AND Malabrigo Lace. I am knitting it in color Toureg. Here is the link to the Ravelry page.
.
.
.
I have been interested in Owls for quite a while. Let’s face it…tons of people are interested in this sweater. It is a pretty easy pullover knit from the bottom up. The owls are super cute. Since this is a short month…I’ll need a quick project knit in the round:) I am still trying to finalize the yarn on this one. I am knitting it in Rowan British Sheep Breeds Chunky, undyed. Cascade 128 superwash would be another great option for this sweater if you are itch sensitive! Here is a link to her website and this is her ravelry page.
.
.
Pickadilly is the sweetest, cutest cardi. This designer also designed the February Lady Sweater. It has a neat crocheted edge that finishes it off so nicely. I am knitting it in Rowan Felted Tweed color 151. It’s a cool purple. I think I’ll trim it in a lime green malabrigo lace! Here is the link to her website and the sweater page on Ravelry.
.
.
.
Francis Revisited by Beth Silverstein is another cute pullover that has a great cowl neck. I am knitting it in Cascade Eco Duo, an alpaca/merino blend. I am knitting this in color 1704. The pattern is available on her website or as a free ravelry download.
.
.
.
Harvest Moon is sooooo great! This will be a wear everyday sweater. I love the pockets. I am knitting this out of Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted Hand Dyes. In color 2012, burgandy. I am so excited about this one because I know I’ll wear it all time! The link to the ravelry download page is here.
.
.
Somewhat Cowl Sweater from Knit and Tonic is the sweater of choice for June knitting. This simple cool sweater will add some va va va voom to my summer wardrobe. I am knitting this is Blue Sky Alpaca, Alpaca Silk. Yum. This pattern is available at the shop but if you want to check it out on Ravelry, click here. Check out the rest of her designs here!

.
This wood hollow vest will be a fun challenging cable pattern for my July 4th picnic knitting. I am knitting this in Three Irish Girls Cashmerino Worsted in a gorgeous blue color. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one! The pattern is available at the shop…here is the Ravelry link
.
.
This effortless Cardi is so swingy and comfortable. I’m going to knit it in Dream in Color Classy…OR the new yarn from Dream in Color if it arrives in time. This pattern is available at the shop, but if you absolutely can’t wait…here is the ravelry link.
.
.
I probably should knit with something other than worsted or bulky yarn huh? How about the Georgia Cardigan from Jane Richmond? We love her patterns here at the shop. I am knitting this one out of Malabrigo Sock color Aguas. I am embarrassed to say I have never knit with Malabrigo Sock before. Yep, shame on me. The pattern is available at the shop, or you can find it on Ravelry or here on her etsy site.

.
Last minute substitution…you can do either Georgia or Cassis for September. Turns out not a lot of people are interested in a sweater out of sock yarn:) It is Cassis…here is the ravelry link. I am going to knit the sock yarn one for sure, but maybe you want to do this one?

Amy B knit this sweater up for her mom last year and we had it on display for a while. LOVED it. I am making my own! Knitting it out of Rowan Cocoon color 815 Amber. It will be hard to wait until October for this one.

This should be a fun knit. Basically you knit 8 blocks and then seam them up. How hard could that be huh? I’ll have to get Debbie our finishing expert in to give me some pointers! I am knitting this one in Rowan Renew color 681. The pattern is in the Rowan Purelife Autumn book. I would love to send you to a great ravelry page for this sweater, but only 5 other peeps have done it. Either it is ugly and I have bad judgement, or I am ahead of the curve. I am going for ahead of the curve:)

So…the last sweater…This beautiful High Neck Cable sweater in Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino is the perfect way to end the year. I am going to knit this in a light color…yet to be determined. The pattern is available at the shop. For more info check out the Blue Sky website or the ravelry page.

So, that’s the line up. Let me apologize to the crocheters out there. I am not a proficient crocheter, so I didn’t include any crochet sweaters…but…I might be convinced to offer you a deal if you find a similar one that you want to tackle! Just ask!
.
So…let’s get knitting!
All VERY cute sweaters! I can’t wait to see them all complete!
I am interested in the sweater a month challenge but I KNOW that I will NOT be able to do that per my schedule. Although if I could choose a few from the ones that you are doing and maybe substitute a few for men’s sweaters? My son wants a sweater and I think that I will be needing help! ha ha I will be stopping in your store tomorrow evening and will ask more questions at that time. What an awesome idea tho!!!!!
How do I sign up for the “sweater of the month?” I’d like to joing. Thanks, Judy
Hey Judy,
You don’t have to sign up…just come on in and get your yarn for any month you would like. You’ll get 20 off all supplies! Glad your going to tackle it with me:)
aimee
Hi Arlene…I’ll be in the shop tomorrow night, I look forward to chatting about it! I am hoping that I’ll have time to do all 12:)
Aimee — Could you give us any idea of which might be more beginner sweaters vs the ones that require more experience? Would be helpful.
I really would like to tackle at least one….I have to narrow it down, and so far I like too many of them. When do you think your online store will be open? I live an hour away, and I have way too many very young kids, can’t get away. Can I buy yarn from you and have it shipped?
Hey cheryl,
The Owls sweater for february is a bottom up sweater knit in the round. So just knit really! The only tricky part will be the cables at the top, but we can help! Francis Revisited is knit in the round too. The November sweater is knit in squares and then seamed up. Can’t get much easier than that right?
Hope we can get you into one of these!
I hate finishing projects, so I make a point of steering clear of large projects that require seaming, but I LOVE owls and have seen that owl sweater on Ravelry. It’s in the round (which I don’t think I realized when I was looking at it before)–maybe I will have to give this sweater a try.
I’m going to shoot for the November sweater in Verdant green in Berrocco Remix. Wool isn’t something I can wear, but I sure like it to look like wool. I think this will be a yummy sweater.
How much fun to spend a day or two deciding which sweaters I could knit in a year. What a great idea!
Shawn
Hi! I love this idea so much! I have such a busy year this year otherwise I would be there for all 12!
I am in for february for sure! I have been eyeballing the owls sweater for too long, I need it to be mine! I havnt decided on wool yet but I will keep you informed!
I’m loving the cardi for may too, thats something I would definately wear!! I am going to try and do it in time with you but I am not that quick! I will say if i get owls done in time im going to do the cardi too!!
I too live far away but I see there is an online shop opening soon!
I look forward to seeing your progress!!
How about Harvest Moon? What would it rank on the difficulty meter? Love this idea Aimee!!
Your first three picks are all on my Ravelry queue, and have been for a while! Tempting…. I’ve been tossing around the idea of 12 in 12 as well.
Unfortunately, I, too, will have to wait for your online store to really take part, since I live in Portland, OR. Great choices, though!
oh my! i am totally going to be participating in this 12 sweaters in 12 months… I like to have deadlines. i am for sure in for march and may….. but i just might switch it up a bit and take a few patterns from my ravelry queue. i am in total love/ heaven with this idea!
This is great! I love almost all of the patterns you have selected –especially the owl sweater! I will definitely be wanting to knit a few of these with you all!
Hi Aimee – Oh my gosh, does this sound like fun! As you might remember, I am down in Florida now until April – can I still participate?? I really love your Jan, Apr, May, Oct choices. Do you have any yarn suggestions for the Jan sweater that are not wool? Sending you sunny wishes!
Hey Chris! Sure we can mail yarn…just let me know what sweater you are thinking of joining me for! Hope you are warm down south!
Hello! I just found your blog today and the 12 sweaters in 12 months project is such a neat idea! I wish your shop wasn’t so far away from me at home in Illinois. Maybe I’ll be able to follow along one month nonetheless. 🙂
I’m so excited! Several of these are already in my queue, so it’s just the kick in the pants I need! I have a big project I’m working on now for a 1/22 baby shower, but will start with February’s as I love the owl sweater. Do I just let you know which ones I want to do? I think there are 8 of the 12 that I want in on, and I think that if I hustle, I could even finish them with you! For February’s I probably need to order soon, I’m thinking? So exciting!
Yeah Sara! Yep, you’d better get Feb on order soon! Where do you live? Glad you’ll be knitting along!
Hi! Sorry, I just saw this. I live in WA state…can you mail it to me? Let me know what I need to do to order. Call your shop? Thanks! Oh, and I blogged about the challenge.
What fabulous projects you chose and what a great challenge. I don’t know if I’m up for 12 in 12 months but I definitely want to try a few of these!
I have finished the body/sleeves of the January sweater (but cheated and started over my winter break in December). Working on the lace inset. I’ve really enjoyed working on this project and plan to do the May choice as well (in May!).
I’m going to do August’s Effortless Cardigan, and I’ll probably start it right after the Beginning Sweater Class — can’t wait for that! After the success of my first-ever-knitted-project-that’s-not-a-scarf (thanks to Aimee’s Beginning Knitting class), I am a knittin’ fool!
