US6, 16″ circular needle
Mochi Plus Color Intense Rainbow

Cast on 60 stitches (for a baby hat)
Join in the round…you know the drill…make sure the stitches aren’t twisted.
Knit 4 rows (this will make the edge will roll up)

Here comes the trick. Don’t bother marking the start of the round. Just Yarn Over, Knit 2 Together…until the hat is the height you want, then k2tog until you have about 7 or 8 stitches left, cut the yarn and weave through the last remaining stitches. Cinch up and weave in ends.

We don’t have an adult version, but I’d just add 8 – 10 stitches and see what happens…
When you say baby size, how old a baby are we talking?
This hat will fit ages from 3-6 months old all the way to youth sizes. My daughter is 9 and the hat fits her around the head (the stitch pattern makes the hat very elastic) but you’ll probably want to add a few inches in height.
Is there photos or a video that shows how to finish this off. I’m just not getting it from the directions alone. Thank you.
Can this effect be created flat? Have a hard time knitting in the round….still learning….:)
This is the pattern I have been looking for for many years – I knitted three of these then didn’t knit again for 40 years – I LOVE this pattern and all the styles – and it was so easy to knit – I even knitted one while attending a workshop on how to build a fall out shelter!!!( a bit of history for you!).

WAIT a minute – doesn’t Yarn Over, Knit 2 Together make a lacy pattern??? It is the spiral pattern I was lookiing at and want – but when I lookeed up how to do Yarn Over, Knit 2 Together it shows that a hole is left with each set of stitches. What am I missing here? Groan – I already bought the yarn and everyting and ready to go!! Baby due in April and I am SLOW slow knitter and not too good either!

Virginia, yes it is a lacy pattern but in this pattern it makes a nice stretchy hat, and if you want less of a lacy look, knit it with a fuzzy thick yarn. I am using Encore with a fun fur and the effect is lovely. I was gonna give it to my daughter but I like it too much. I cast on 76 sts to make an adult size on a size 8 or 10. I knit loose too but I got the gauge I wanted. Thanks so much for this lovely pattern!
