Today is the day, thirteen years ago, that we officially opened the doors of Darn Knit Anyway.

Carly messaged me this morning to wish us a Happy Shopiversary.

“Lucky 13” she texted. With a 4 leaf clover emoji.

Carly and I are cousins. We have been together since she was born, a few short months after me. We’ve always been pals.

We learned to knit from our Nanny Jean when we were young teens. We probably sat down to knit with her after we cleaned up from this epic flour battle.

Our Nanny Jean was superstitious. She believed in that stuff.

“Stir with a knife, stir up trouble and strife”.

“A pinch and a punch, it’s the 1st of the month”

She said it was bad luck to put your new shoes on a table.

She said “white rabbit” three times on the first day of the month before she said anything else.

When my friend Jami got married, lightning struck the church and it lost power (at least that’s how I remember it). My Nanny was there and of course, she told Jami, “Oh Jami, It’s good luck when lighting strikes on your wedding day”.

So, what would Nanny say about our 13th Anniversary?

She would say, without hesitation,

“Oh, my darlings…13 is the luckiest number of all”.

We agree!

Thanks to all of you, for 13 very lucky years! We are so grateful.

Here’s to 13 more!
