I live in Somerset, WI. Just a 10 minute drive into Wisconsin from the shop.

It’s a town of about 2800 people.

Our high school has under 500 students. Each grade just over 100. Our marching band…under 30 kids. We are certainly a small town.

I love living in a town like this, on a day like this.

We meet at the Catholic Church; the high school band, the American Legion guys, and gals, a Somerset firetruck.

The band plays the Star-Spangled Banner and the Armed Forces Salute. A bagpiper plays, the American Legion Veterans offer up a prayer for the fallen, then a 21 gun salute and taps finish up the first stop.

The entire group then marches to 3 more spots in town; the bridge over the Apple River, Veteran’s Park, and Hillside Cemetery. Doing it all again each time. Then everyone meets up at the American Legion for hotdogs!

I love thinking about all the small towns all over the country gathering like our small town does to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
