I was incredibly lucky to spend just over a week in Italy with my mom and sister. My mom had never been to Rome, so my sister, Piper, and I decided it was time to take her.
We explored as much as possible in both Rome and Assisi. Since it’s a Jubilee year in the Catholic faith, we had the rare opportunity to walk through all four Holy Doors—so yes, we do feel a little more holy now!
We each had our own priorities for this trip. My mom wanted to visit churches and the homes of saints. My sister wanted to buy Italian shoes (and make sure we didn’t lose our mom). I just wanted to sit at a sunny table in a piazza and knit. Mission accomplished!
I could share photos of the fantastic sights we visited—the Vatican, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and the Tiber River—but you can easily look those up on Google. Instead, I thought I’d share some of my favorite personal photos.

My favorite photo of the trip. Our adorable Mom drinking her first Italian Cappucino in Rome. It was 7am in a tiny 7′ wide cafe. Joy right?
I’m knitting Anker’s Summer Shirt out of La Bien Aimee Merino DK. It’s my 2nd one and I’m sooooo close to finishing! Perfect place to knit, no?

Assisi was an incredibly beautiful little town. It looked like it was built by Disney and that Belle or Gaston would be coming around the corner at any minute. So many stairs!
My sister gets all the credit for this trip. She scheduled everything, planned everything, and booked almost everything. My mom and I would have been lost without her. She’s so much cooler than me:)

We (Piper) booked a driver for us to get around Rome one day. It was money well spent! Sebastiano drove us around Rome and outside the walls to all the places we wanted to see, and some we didn’t even know we should. Highly recommend!! Mom does too:)
This was my view most days—me turning around to find my family about 50 feet behind me. I just can’t walk at a casual pace. Shocking, I know!

And a big thank you, from the three of us, to Team Darn Knit Anyway.
I was able to take 2 full weeks off of work and I didn’t worry about the place for a second. I am so grateful to my amazing team for this incredible gift of time.
I’m back Monday! Come ask me about Rome!!
