.
We finished a sweater today.
=.
We finish a lot of sweaters in this shop.
.
This one was special though.
.
Our customer and friend Nancy passed away a few months ago and she was so close to finishing this sweater.
.
We were lucky enough to be able to finish it for her. For her daughter.
.
Carly sewed up all the pieces, I picked up and knit the collar.
.
We thought about blocking it, but decided against it.
.
We thought her daughter might still want it to smell like her mom.
.
Her daughter came in to pick it up and sure enough, she put it right up to her nose. Sweet.
.
We finished a sweater today. Our gift to Nancy.
.
We are more than a yarn store and we like it that way.
.
…I have to go get a kleenex. Beautiful!!!
I second the Kleenex… I am going to truly miss this gem of a LYS when we move.
Just one of the many reasons we love you guys!
Third kleenex. A yarn store with a big heart. 🙂
Girls, I too thank you for finishing Nancy’s sweater. i know how hard to worked on it and was so proud that she didn’t have any mistakes. She loved her knitting projects and worked on many during her recovery time and her treatments. She made many lovely items and they were all made with love. I know because she was my good friend and the one who got me knitting. She is missed by many and because of what you girls have done Stacey will always have “her” sweater. Thanks you both very much.
That’s beautiful. What awesome people you are! I’m betting her daughter will treasure that sweater always.
Very touching. Yep, Kleenex! You guys ARE the best!
Just lovely.
What a gift to treasure forever! You are very special ladies!
You are just too much. <3
Thank you for sharing a compassionate story! Smell is so tightly linked to memory; what a sensitive gift and to not block it-WOW!
So sweet!!
WOW!! You gals have such a great yarn store, but you are so so much more than just a yarn store. I need a box of Kleenex. 🙂
LOVE!
Ditto. Such a touching thing to do and a hard thing, too. You two are the best.
You are so much more than a yarn store.
What a wonderful act of kindness–
Broke out in tears! After losing my husband, I so know about the smelling reaction. Instantly that’s what we do to feel connected. Love to her daughter.
Oh! There’s something in my eye! What a lovely lovely thing to do! I purposely go out of my way to visit you because you are “more than a yarn store”!
What a wonderful gift.
Yes, you are part of my extended family too, although that word doesn’t quite say enough about the deep, sometimes raucous and sometimes quiet joy-filled moments you and you wonderful staff inspire. Love you all!
Amazing! Tears here too. Love the gesture and the compassion. Thanks for sharing and reminding all of us how much knitting connects us to the world.
This is so special – you guys are amazing. xo
That’s why your store is so successful-it has such a big heart!!!
I’m a mom with three daughters and a whole lot of started projects . . .
Truly awesome. I have a fleece jacket my mother bought shortly before she died. I assured her that red was a wonderful color for her. (It was.) When I decided to keep it and wear it, it was like a hug from my mom.
Some of my most treasured items are from my momma that she has crocheted over the years. Your thoughtfulness toward that daughter humbles me to be more aware of others and what they are going through and to be more faithful in the follow-through when I do reach out. Thank you, ladies. Thank you for caring so much about us.
