We are proud to be a drop off point for this years Power of a Purse drive. We are collecting new or gently used purses for mothers in need as an act of raising awareness about the economic concerns facing mothers in poverty. This event is a partnership with Mothers & More Twin Cities Chapter and Tubman! We are excited to be a part of it.
.
The purse symbolizes a woman’s economic power, something we wish for all women, especially women in need!
.
A few interesting Pocketbook Facts:
.
- The 2009 poverty rate for female-led families with children is almost 50% higher than those with male heads-of-household
- Of the 12.8 million children living in poverty in the U.S., 8.5 million are being raised in single parent households – 89 percent of which are headed by women.
- The gender wage gap in the U.S. is greater for women who are mothers than for women who are child-free.
- Domestic violence victims lose nearly 8 million days of paid work per year – the equivalent of over 32,000 full-time jobs.
.
So, what can you do? Simply bring a new or gently used purse into the shop and drop it off in the bin. We can’t wait to see how many purses we can dig up!
.
Thanks in advance for your participation!
