Hello friends.

It’s June 1st and today is usually the day of the month we release our Makers’ League Kit.

Our focus just hasn’t been on getting the pattern printed and yarn ready. We’ve been focused on the hurt in our cities.

I’m going to say this right away, in case you don’t read to the end.

We believe Black Lives Matter.
We want justice for George Floyd.

We have shared our lives with all of you for 10 years and you have shared your lives with us. We talk about our business, our families, our joys, and our sorrows. We like to say we talk about everything in the yarn store, but we don’t. We don’t talk about race. It’s foolish to think we shouldn’t talk about this monumental moment in our history. That we should ignore it as if it isn’t happening. We are choosing not to ignore it.

I have re-written this email a dozen times. This makes me so uncomfortable. I worry that I will say too much or too little. I worry that I will say the wrong words or the wrong phrases. I worry that I will say something that will hurt someone.

You know what? It’s ok for me to be worried. It’s ok for me to sit in the uncomfortable. It’s ok for me to have conversations with my team and customers that are hard.

It’s time for me, for all of us, to watch, listen, and learn. It’s overdue.
