.
I am turning 40 this month. May 23rd to be exact.
.
I am tired of knitting a sweater a month.
.
I hate to admit it, but this 12 and 12 program has taken all the fun out of knitting for me.
.
It has taken away my choice. I have only been able to knit the sweater of the month each month for 18 months now. I don’t have time to knit anything else each month. I haven’t been able, for example, to knit this…
.
.
By the way, if you haven’t knit this yet..what are you waiting for? The whole knitting world is knitting Color Affection:) 3 skeins of sock yarn! Any color combos are beautiful. Only knit stitch, short rows. We’ll have our sample knit up soon, you can come see it for yourself.
.
I haven’t been able to knit this either.
.
.
I’ve wanted to knit the Aestlight Shawl ever since Katy taught this class in 2010!
.
.
I love, love, love these…I haven’t been able to knit these mittens either.
.
.
Or how about these cushions? I just painted the main floor of our house a bunch of these colors…these would be a great addition to the living room.
.
See what I mean, I have been missing this part of knitting. The fun part. The hours surfing Ravelry looking for just the perfect project. The excitement when I figure out exactly what yarn I am using with the project and the fun of sharing it with my friends.
.
My friend and sample knitter Kate wanted to knit me something for my birthday. She was annoyed that there was nothing but sweaters in my queue. Of course there isn’t. I only knit the sweaters of the month. I can’t knit anything else.
.
Now don’t get me wrong. I do love to knit sweaters. I love our 12 in 12 program. I love the challenge of knitting them in a month. I am just tiring of HAVING to do it each month. I have no choice anymore. It’s kind of like eating the same thing every day for a month AND choosing what you are going to eat each day of each month… in January.
.
I am probably being melodramatic about this. Maybe I’m having a mid-life crisis. Wow. I think I am actually considered middle aged now? That just hit me. Yes, I am going to say I am having a mid life crisis. That will explain everything:)
.
I know…poor me right? I don’t mean to be a baby about it, but I just don’t think I can bring myself to knit May’s Sweater. It’s a beauty though and I know a bunch of people are going to be working on it this month. I can’t wait to see them all, I just can’t bring myself to knit another sweater this month.
.
It’s my birthday month after all and I’ll not knit if I want to.
.
.
’bout time!
I totally understand and agree.
Happy birthday month, and thanks again for being such a fabulous hostess!
You knit whatever you want!!!!! Good for you! 🙂 You look fabulous by the way. 🙂
I love this blog more than any blog you’re written! I’m laughing right now. I reminds me of the time I told several friends I would make them things, for pay, and I just hated being burdened with the JOB of knitting. I support your decision NOT to knit. Maybe sew – or cook for month. But you’ll soon miss it and be right back knitting June’s sweater – I can just bet!
I wondered when you would get tired of it. I couldn’t deal with the pressure. I like to knit frivolous things like Christmas stockings in April, little toys and a shawl here and there. Oh and lots of mittens! Have a wonderful birthday. Your shop is a delight and you should feel very proud of it!
Aimee – LOL – you hit the beauty of being 40 and the bain of being a business owner who owns what she (did & still should) love to do – all in one breathe!! Don’t knit it – in fact you don’t have to knit any of them – do what you want for 1 month, 2…3… Knit what you want – revel in the joy of why you are doing what you are doing. Doesn’t mean your customers can’t do 12 in 12 or 2 in 12 for them it’s choice! You – think about the joy – Welcome to the beauty of 40!
Yikes! I’m gonna have to drop my two baby sweaters for the twins and work on those mittens!!!
BRAVO, BRAVO!
Do take this month –and any other you want for that matter–off. Besides, you’re the boss, you make the rules.
Enjoy your birthday all month long. But I would start on the 22nd of May till the 22nd of June. After all, Mother’s Day falls in there and that should be good for a couple of free weeks shouldn’t it?
Good for you! Those are all lovely not-sweater-projects. Happy birthday!
That is the most wonderful picture of 40 I have ever seen. Knit Knot my friend and know who you are not. MUAH
It’s ironic that May’s sweater is called Sabbatical. Perhaps you should take a brief one and knit up some of those cute, quick (and therefore very rewarding) projects you listed. We wouldn’t fault you!
Good for you! I think you should only knit what makes you happy. (And, that cushion project is in my queue as well. It’s one of the reasons I think I should learn to crochet!)
Good for you. Just because you have the 12 in 12 doesn’t mean you have to stick to it. Your sweaters are beautiful but knitting is suppose to be fun. So if you cast on and don’t finish or don’t cast on at all there is no knitting police. By the way thank you for being yet another blogger tempting me with the Color Affection shawl. “..what are you waiting for?” got to me and bought the pattern last night. Now I need to decided on what yarn and color. Enjoy May!
12 sweaters in 12 months – it is beyond my imagination. Happy Birthday! Your shop and all of you are wonderful. I’m bringing my cousin again from Renton, Washington in about two weeks.
Happy Birthday Aimee!!
How will it feel to be a mom, beautiful, creative and a sucessfull business woman all at age 40!!
Quite a gal you are!!!
