It was career day in Somerset Wisconsin last week.
.
I spent the day in my son Max’s 1st grade classroom.
.
I was supposed to talk about my career.  The things I learned in school that prepared me for my job, the things I love about my job and the things I don’t love so much about my job.  So I talked about counting money (super important) I talked about being nice to people (again, super important) and I talked about how yarn was made.
.
Now remember, these are 1st graders…I was competing for their attention with another parent who is a SEMI TRUCK DRIVER!  They got to honk the horn and everything!  Do you know the back of a semi truck has a BED?  A BED!   How on earth do you make a job as a yarn shop owner as exciting as that?
.
You show them pictures of cute animals…that’s what:)
.
I showed them this picture…that just sucked them right in.
.

Do you think this sheep is ready to be sheared?

.
Then we talked about how heavy and dirty fleece can be and how much work it takes to make this into yarn.  We passed around pieces of nice cleaned and combed fiber.
.

Sheared Sheep

.
Then I brought out the big guns…Alpaca.
.

I mean really…doesn’t get much cuter

.
Wait it does!
.

Semi truck? What Semi Truck?

.

The semi truck horn honking is but a memory now

.
They LOVED the pictures.  Plus they got to go home with a goodie back with some yarn and finger knitting instructions.  What could be better?
.
They wrote me thank you letters.  I thought I would share a few…
.

Corrissa listened.  Sheep ARE dirty.  She has awesome printing too.  Wow.

.

Josh listened too.  He got the counting money part.  I also showed a knit sample of a flying pig.  Hence the favorite part about the pig:)

.

Nick loved the funny shaved alpaca pictures!  I knew those would get ’em.

.

Kayden followed his teachers instructions perfectly…I’m gonna venture a guess that the teacher just might have written on the board with blanks and Kayden plunked in “the yarn”.  I LOVE this!!

.
Some kids even drew pictures.
.

Signe captured me perfectly if I do say so myself.  I just wish I could have eyelashes like that!  For clarification I did bring Poppy, the knit doll, to show too.  I wasn’t passing around real babies.

.

I am not sure just what I am holding?

.

Now we are cooking with gas!

.

I think maybe we have flip flops on? Not sure

.

I think that is me behind the table?  Hard to tell, but she got the hair perfect.

boys…

.
I am assuming the teacher didn’t take a close look at the letters before Max scooped them up to take them home:)  Because the last picture is an amazing likeness of me.
.

.
I’ll be back next year Somerset Elementary…if you’ll have me!  Next year I wanna honk the semi truck horn too!
