The first 7 days of 2024 have been full of fix it sessions.
Now, we love this part of our job. We really do. It is a part of our business model that is very important to us. We have always wanted to be a place people feel comfortable and welcome and encouraged. We would rather you come in and ask for help than have a project you love hit the back of your closet forever unfinished.
Here are a few things to remind you of as we start a new year of projects found deserted at the back of the closet…
1. Every project doesn’t NEED to be finished.
Yep, some projects just don’t need to be finished. Maybe the sweater is WAY too small for you now, or maybe you know the person you were making it for really won’t want it anymore. Or maybe you don’t like the color or style or pattern. Whatever. I am giving you permission to let it go. Rip it out and start something different or, GASP, throw it away! Not every project needs to be finished. While we’re on that topic, it’s ok to throw away your extra bits of yarn too. I know you feel like you could be doing something with it. But you really don’t have to. Whew! Doesn’t that feel good?
2. Every project doesn’t NEED to be perfect.
Yep, that funny looking stitch that you noticed way down there, at the bottom of the sweater. That stitch probably doesn’t need to be fixed. I know, YOU will know it’s there. YOU knowing it’s there is the problem that can be fixed. How do you fix it? Just stop worrying about that stitch!
3. It’s about the PROCESS, not the thing.
This is the big one. You could buy a perfect hat at a store. Let’s be real it will probably cost you less than the one that you are working on now. We don’t knit for the thing. Well, that’s not entirely true. We do knit for the thing, BUT…if you aren’t enjoying the process, aren’t learning and trying new things, why are you doing it? Really.
Now, having said all that. Believe me when I say we do want you to feel welcome to come for help. We really do love to help you figure things out, and it doesn’t cost you a thing. So come show us what you are working on. If it happens to have a mistake down at the bottom that you are happily ignoring, all the better:)
