Many of you ask about our original shop Rockstar, Carly. So, we thought it was time for an update from the one and only.
It was two years ago…
She had her cute red clogs on. One small rock, one wrong step…and everything changed. She fell forward, hit her head, and life took a sharp turn. Concussion/TBI.
She slept most of the day for 2 months. She couldn’t drive for 10 months.
She’s done PT, OT, eye therapy, acupuncture, cranial sacral…yet the headaches remain. Constant and daily. Extra noice and lights are not her friend either. You’ll notice the hat and dark glasses. Her daily armor.
Her days are shorter now. Her brain tires fast. Conversations can be hard to manage. So, if she’s past you in the shop or the Makers Lounge without stopping to say hi, it’s not you. Every conversation chips away at her energy level.
But, she’s still her. She’s still Carly.
Still creative. Still an important part of DKA, just more behind the scenes these days. Are you following us on Facebook or Instagram? That’s all her:)
She’s teaching again, Knit 101 and e-spinning, finding her rhythm in a new way.
With a degree in art, it was inevitable she’d fall in love with color! Dyeing yarn and wool roving has become part of her healing too.
She’ll be dying yarn for us every few months or so. Wool roving too. We’re lucky to have our first batch of Darn Knit Anyway “Carly’s Yarn” in the shop and available online too. She calls this color “Autumn”.
As Carly would say, “This isn’t the path I’d planned, but it’s the one I’m walking.”
And she’s doing it one careful, intentional step at a time.
