Darn Knit on the Patio

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

Join us Saturday, June 10th, 2017 for World Wide Knit in Public Day!

As you know, we knit in public a lot, but this time we hope you’ll join us.

We’ll be crafting on the patio in front of the shop in celebration of World Wide Knit in Public Day. Yep, it’s a real thing.

We’ll be sitting out on the patio with some friends knitting and crocheting. Heck, bring your spinning wheel if you want!

Bring some snacks and your favorite beverage and we’ll wave at all the poor souls sitting in traffic!

Remember, the earlier you arrive the better…It’s looking like a beautiful summer Saturday so that means a bit of traffic in Stillwater!

We hope to see you on Saturday.

Look Ma…No Pills

We can’t sing the praises of Hikoo Simpliworsted enough.  This yarn is terrific, awesome, amazing.

Dark and Stormy was a sweater I knit for our 12 in 12 in 2013.  It was fun to knit!

Anyway, It’s been in our store as a sample ever since.  It’s been on hangers and on mannequins, it’s been tried on by regulars and tourists.  It’s been washed a few times too. Anyway, I’m bringing it up again now because I have been wearing this Dark and Stormy sweater now for weeks, almost every day actually and no pilling!  None!

It’s not cheap.  $16 for 140 yards of a plump aran weight acrylic blend yarn, but it is so worth it!

I’ve thrown it in the dryer (on cool)
No itch factor

Check out all the colors here and make something out of it!  You won’t be sorry:)

Summer Vacation Begins Again

Friday, June 13th, 2014

Like many of you, my kiddos are basking in the glow of summer break.  We are 4 days in.

Boredom doesn’t come quite as fast as it did when they were 6.   They can read now, and play with the neighborhood gang without my constant attention. and of course they have devices.

This was their end of the year pic.

m&m last day

Maggie’s last day of Elementary school was this year so I am a bit melancholy.  It’s middle school next year for her.

I found this old blog post from 2010, the first summer of our shop.   Wow the years fly past don’t they?

Happy summer to us all!

As I write this, 5 lovely knit 101 students are starting a fingerless mitt project in our classroom.  Not bad for just learning to cast on 90 minutes ago.
I am working on the winter class schedule.  It sure doesn’t feel much like winter right now.  55 degrees today?  Crazy.
We’re going to have a sweater class this session.  Cassis is the sweater of choice.  Perfect for first sweater knitters.  Don’t want to add the lace panel?  We’ll leave it off.  Don’t want it so long?  We’ll make it shorter.  You’ll love the seamless, top down construction.

We’ll be turning a square…

We’ll of course have a few mitten classes, a sock class, a few fun technique classes and of course more of Robbin’s felting classes too.
Oh and we’re doing this awesome crochet pillow for a “crochet-a-long”!

Class schedule should be online early next week.
What were people buying today?
Yarn for the Gap-tastic Cowl.  Ravelry certainly isn’t wrong today.  The number 1 most popular pattern on the site today was also the most popular in our store.  We’ve knit it out of an HPKY yarn called Venice.  It is full of sparkle and we love this aqua color!

People are planning some quick cowl holiday knitting with this one.
How are your holiday projects coming along?
I got a good start on Maggie’s Poppy doll…

I also got a great start on a Christmas Stocking for a new member of the Doyle Clan.   It knits up fast and FUN!  I can see why my Nan liked to knit these (at least the first 50 she knit:)
