So…I had to do SOMETHING this week.

owlet

do you see the owls?

If you can’t commit to knitting the big version of this owl sweater…try knitting this sweet kids version.   I can’t let you into the 12 in 12 party doing the kids version…BUT it is super cute and really fast and easy!  A great first cabling project too!

I did this one as a cap sleeve.  The owl neck detail made that so easy.  Here are the changes I made.  First, I knit this out of Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted Hand Dyes (let me just say yum).  The pattern calls for a chunky, this leans more aran.   I knit it on a size 8 needle and I knit the size 4 (made to fit a 9-10 kid size).  My daughter Maggie is 7 and I figured that with the smaller yarn and needle and bigger size, it should fit perfectly.   As far as the sleeve goes, the pattern is designed as a long sleeve.  I thought we’d get more wear out of a short sleeve, so at each arm, I just put 4 stitches on a holder, then cast on for the top of the sleeve (bottom of the owls).  I finished the edge under the arm with a single crochet!  LOVE!  If you are on Ravelry check out the page here for more details.

This was a home run in my book.  Maggie tried it on this morning and said “can I wear it to school today mom?”  This coming from the girl who recently told me “mom, I only want to wear things knit by Target right now”.   Homerun!
