I’m sorry I’ve been slacking on the sweater updates.
.
AHHHHH!  I don’t know about you, but June is such a crazy month for us.
.
Kids had their last day of school and now the summer of kid juggling begins.
.
.
Maggie is playing softball and Max is playing baseball.  So, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday nights we are scrambling to get home and get to a ballgame.  WHAT?  How do parents do this?  How do parents with 9-5 jobs get their kids places?  Our kids are only 8 and 9, so we’ve got 10 more years of it!
.

.
I don’t remember my parents coming to every one of our sporting events.  Do you?  Did yours?
.
I played softball when I was little and tennis when I was in high school.  I do remember my dad coming to  sometimes and I am sure my mom did too, but I don’t remember.  I remember riding my bike a lot and getting rides from my friends.  I can’t imagine our parents cared less than we do?  Maybe my parents were there a lot and I just don’t remember.  I’ll have to ask them:)  I wonder how they remember those days…
.
Anyway…on to the sweater.
.
I am knitting Dark and Stormy from Babycocktails this month.  I really love it.  It is turning out great and it fits very well.  I am pretty sure this will be a very well used winter sweater.
.

.
I am knitting it out of Simpliworsted by Hikoo.  It is an aran weight yarn, so a heavy worsted.  The sweater could be really dense at this gauge, but they yarn is so light and squishy that it feels great!  We are starting (very slowly) to get some yarn online for purchase.  This is one that is now online.  Check it out!
.
I did have one little hiccup.
.
There is short row shaping on the collar so that the collar folds over nicely.  I knit the short rows as written and then found that there was a bunch of excess “fabric” on the fronts.  I didn’t like it.  You can see the folds of fabric on either side of the collar.  The short rows are written to be centered over the lowest point of the V neck.  That seems to give too much weight to that part and then the fabric buckles.  It might not happen as much with a lighter weight yarn and gauge, but with my yarn, it sure was noticeable.
.

.
So, following some guidance from Ravelers, I pulled out that first collar and reknit the short rows centering them between the raglan increase and the lowest point of the V neck.   It’s much nicer for me.  I could have probably done a few more short rows to make the collar a little bit more robust, but I think when it’s blocked it’ll be perfect.

I’m on to the sleeves this time.  This sweater needs long ones:)
.
Good thing I have a baseball game to watch tonight.
